O’Connor ACE Elementary Students Participate in Illustrate America Art Contest

On March 31, VISD students participated in the Patriotic Art (9-12) and Illustrating America (K-8) Art Competitions sponsored by the VFW Post and Auxiliary 4146.

Victoria Martinez, a student at O’Connor ACE Elementary, was selected as the 1st Place winner for the Illustrating America Art Contest and will advance to the State Chairman for the next round. If her artwork advances to yet another round it will be on a National Level.

First, second, and third place winners received a cash prize.

For artworks in the Patriotic Art Competition (9-12) that advance to the National Level, the 1st Place Winner would receive $30,000 that they can use to further their career and passion for the arts.

This is the second year that the O'Connor art program has participated in the Illustrating America Art Contest. This art contest allows the students to be creative and have their artwork displayed at school and throughout the community. The students really look forward to the art contest and having their artwork displayed. Even though the students at O'Connor are only in elementary, the art contests and shows that they participate in prepare them for the future if they decide to pursue the Visual Arts as their passion and their "&".

"It amazes me to see my elementary art students utilize their creativity and ideas to produce their art vision" said Mrs. Narvaez, O'Connor Elementary art teacher.
